Located on the roof top of the Cairo Capital Club in Garden City, Dos Cañas offers the weary Cairo dweller a little respite from the city’s hustle and bustle.
Looking out at the lights adorning the river or watching a fiery sunset, colleagues, friends and couples converge to sample Spanish cuisine in a convivial atmosphere.
The restaurant’s location adds to its charm, as understated lighting and lively music offer a sense of the culture upon which the establishment has clearly chosen to base itself. This is a place that invites you to enjoy the fundamental pleasures of eating and drinking in a way that is unhurried, unpretentious and designed to be savoured.
Though clearly adapted for Egyptian tastes, the menu of Dos Cañas is based upon the staples of Spanish cuisine, with a few twists here and there to add variety. Service is friendly and attentive but relaxed, perfect for those who want to linger over their shared dishes or cocktails. In this sense, you feel an authentic taste of Spain in the heart of Cairo.
Dos Cañas specialises in hearty food that can be eaten alone or shared as a group. We sampled classic dishes that would suit most palates, with meat, fish and potatoes being key.
A mix of cold and warm starters preceded the main courses. Succulent mini burgers and grilled steak bites were accompanied by classic patatas bravas, flavoured with herbs and spices.
The quinoa salad was surprising with its combination of strong, salty dressing and sweet pomegranate; an unexpected burst of flavour from a dish that packs more of a punch than you would imagine on sight.
We also sampled Octopus a la Padilla, which likewise has a kick that contrasted with the lightly seasoned meat of the mini burgers and steak bites.
Main courses comprised grilled beef and chicken Mishkaki, slowly cooked, skewered and served with a highly piquant sauce that should be sampled with care by those intolerant to spice!
Dos Cañas offers a selection of cocktails, from international classics such as the Cosmopolitan to refreshing sangria that adds to the impression of dining in an upmarket Spanish tapas bar.
Perfect for anything from a relaxed business dinner to a birthday with friends, Dos Cañas represents something a little different among Cairo eating establishments. An upmarket venue with classic dishes, where time slows down, drinks flow freely and you can linger over your conversation for as long as you like.
